Important Information

November 24, 2020

Dear Wallace Parents,

This letter is to inform you that we will, unfortunately, be extending our adaptive pause to in-person instruction again for ALL preschool through eighth grade students. Our tentative return date back to in-person instruction will now be Monday, January 4, 2021. We know that remote learning is not a suitable replacement for the high-quality in-person instruction that our students receive each day at school. However, we must prioritize the health and safety of our students, families, and staff and do our part to help slow the transmission of COVID-19 in our community.

To help provide some insight in regard to our decision-making process, there are four primary health metrics that the school currently uses, under the guidance of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), to determine the level of community transmission/spread. These include test positivity, new cases per 100,000, new cases, and youth cases. Based on the current week’s data/metrics, each of these items are categorized into one of three different stages of community transmission. These include minimal, moderate, or substantial community transmission.

For your reference, below are the current metrics for LaSalle County:

  • Test Positivity: 20.8% - Substantial Community Transmission

  • New Cases Per 100,000: 961 per 100k - Substantial Community Transmission

  • New Cases: 1,052 - Substantial Community Transmission

  • Youth Cases: 144 - Substantial Community Transmission

  • For more information, visit: https://www.dph.illinois.gov/countyschool?county=LaSalle

Unfortunately, when there is substantial community transmission in all four areas, it is recommended that schools pivot to remote learning to slow the community transmission of COVID-19. Obviously, with the holiday season upon us, there is serious concern for further spread in the community as well.

At this time, we plan to again re-evaluate our return to in-person instruction before we go on winter break. If we need to extend our adaptive pause past January 4, 2021, we will communicate that information before we go on break. Additionally, for those that had opted previously for remote learning, please be aware that January 4th is your next opportunity to return back to in-person instruction. We will send out additional information about this in the coming weeks.

As I shared above, our tentative return date to in-person instruction is Monday, January 4, 2021. In order for us to be confident that we can return on this date, our community must do their part to ensure that we can do this safely. We encourage you to wear a mask in public, maintain social distance, and continue to wash your hands frequently. In addition, we discourage large group gatherings, parties, and social events. Although they may be unpopular, these measures are all necessary in controlling the spread of COVID-19.

If you are interested, the Ottawa YMCA will be offering a full day babysitting program from 6:45 am to 5:30 pm during the time that we are remote (students that attend need to bring their own sack lunch each day). If you are interested, you can contact the Ottawa YMCA on Monday, November 2nd by calling 815-433-2395.

In closing, we are committed to providing your child and our staff with a safe and healthy environment. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing cooperation with our COVID prevention policies and procedures as we work to help protect your children, your families, and our staff and their families. For any questions or concerns, please contact us at (815) 433-2986.

IMPORTANT - ALL Health-Related Inquiries
